A few words about...
The orchestra Les Musiciens du Prince – Monaco was founded in the spring of 2016 at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo upon the initiative of Cecilia Bartoli and in collaboration with Jean-Louis Grinda, the then Director of the Opéra. The project received the immediate support of HSH Prince Albert II and HRH The Princess of Hanover. Cecilia Bartoli, performer and artistic director, brought together some of the finest international musicians playing on period instruments to create an orchestra which renewed a musical tradition popular at princely courts in 17th and 18th century Europe. The orchestra’s repertoire encompasses Renaissance and Baroque music – from Monteverdi to Handel and Vivaldi – and extends into the Classical and Romantic periods from Mozart to Rossini. Most recently, Les Musiciens du Prince began to look at the Wagnerian repertoire to great acclaim, upholding a rigorous interpretative approach and a distinctive sound under the baton of Principal Conductor Gianluca Capuano. Launched with Das Rheingold in 2025, this journey is set to continue with the other parts from the Ring tetralogy over the coming years, Les Musiciens du Prince and Cecilia Bartoli perform in Europe’s leading concert halls and are regular guests at Salzburg’s Whitsun Festival and Summer Festival. In 2026, to celebrate their 10th anniversary, the orchestra will mark this decade of excellence with a series of concerts and tours across Europe, including a residence at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Berlin). In May, the orchestra will expand its discography with the release of its first orchestral album, Concerti per vari strumenti II, as part of French label Naïve’s renowned Vivaldi Edition. In summer, a DVD containing the award-winning Salzburg production of Hotel Metamorphosis with Vivaldi’s music played by Les Musiciens du Prince under Gianluca Capuano will be published by Unitel and the Salzburg Festival.

Italian conductor Gianluca Capuano has been Principal Conductor of Les Musiciens du Prince – Monaco since 2019. The ensemble was founded by Cecilia Bartoli, with whom he enjoys a close artistic collaboration. He studied organ, composition and conducting at the Milan Conservatory, and pursued early music studies at the Scuola Civica in the same city. Holding a degree in theoretical philosophy from the University of Milan, he also engages in research on musical aesthetics. In 2006, he founded Il Canto di Orfeo, a vocal ensemble with which he has performed La morte d’Abel at the Salzburg Festival, La clemenza di Tito on tour and at the 2023 Whitsun Festival. Since their Norma in 2016, he has regularly conducted Cecilia Bartoli and Les Musiciens du Prince in Salzburg, Vienna, Zurich, Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Paris. Among his notable engagements are: Catone in Utica, Il matrimonio segreto, and Gli uccellatori in Cologne; Guillaume Tell in Orange; Iphigénie en Tauride and Orlando paladino in Zurich; Il barbiere di Siviglia in Palermo and Vienna; Idomeneo at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi in Lucerne ; and La cenerentola at La Scala in Milan . He conducted the first two albums in the “Mentored by Bartoli” collection for Decca. In 2022, he was awarded the Premio Abbiati for Conductor of the Year. At the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, he has conducted La Cenerentola, Il turco in Italia, Giulio Cesare, Ariodante, Ein deutsches Requiem, Their Master’s Voice, La donna del lago, Alcina, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La clemenza di Tito, Das Rheingold, Vespro della Beata Vergine and Die Walküre.

Nouvelle parution discographique des Musiciens du Prince – Monaco
Les Musiciens du Prince – Monaco sont heureux d'annoncer la sortie de leur nouvel album Antonio Vivaldi – Concerti per vari strumenti II, paru le 15 mai 2026 chez Naïve Records dans le cadre de la prestigieuse Vivaldi Edition.
Cette publication marque une étape importante dans l’histoire des Musiciens du Prince. Elle constitue le 75ᵉ volume de la Vivaldi Edition, cette aventure discographique exceptionnelleinitiée en 2000, dont l'ambition est de faire découvrir l'intégralité des manuscrits de Vivaldi conservés à la Bibliothèque nationale de Turin. Pour la première fois, Les Musiciens du Prince rejoignent ce projet de référence consacré au compositeur vénitien.
Dirigé par Gianluca Capuano, cet enregistrement met en lumière l'un des aspects les plus fascinants de l'œuvre de Vivaldi : les concerti per vari strumenti, véritables laboratoires sonores où le compositeur déploie toute son imagination au service de l’alliance des timbres et des couleurs instrumentales.
Le programme réunit six concertos illustrant l'extraordinaire richesse de l'écriture de Vivaldi. Flûtes à bec, hautbois, basson, violons, cordes pincées et clavecins dialoguent dans des combinaisons toujours renouvelées, révélant le goût du compositeur pour l'expérimentation et son remarquable sens de l'équilibre orchestral. Si certaines œuvres évoquent l'influence de la cour de Dresde, alors l'un des centres musicaux les plus brillants d'Europe, d'autres rappellent l'environnement unique de l'Ospedale della Pietà à Venise, où le compositeur disposait d'un vivier exceptionnel d'instrumentistes.
Tout au long de cet enregistrement, Les Musiciens du Princerévèlent toute la finesse de ces partitions grâce à une palette sonore d'une grande délicatesse. Sous l'impulsion de Gianluca Capuano, les lignes musicales se déploient avec naturel, élégance et vitalité, offrant une lecture lumineuse de ces pages où l'invention semble naître de la virtuosité elle-même.
Cette nouvelle parution témoigne de l'engagement constant de l'ensemble en faveur du répertoire baroque et de son désir de faire redécouvrir des œuvres majeures sous un jour nouveau.
