Passing on a passion for opera to younger generations lies at the very heart of the commitments of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Because discovering the world of opera and live performance can leave a lasting mark on a young person’s life journey, we are deeply committed to offering younger audiences a sensitively conceived, immersive and vibrant experience of an artistic process.
Attending a rehearsal, feeling the intensity of a working situation, observing the precise actions of artists and technicians, perceiving the delicate balance between rigour and emotion… These rare moments offer young spectators a fresh perspective on opera, far away from common preconceptions.
During the 25/26 season, more than 1,500 students from all educational levels were invited to discover the creative process through rehearsals of Aida by Verdi and Pelléas et Mélisande by Debussy. Each session began with a presentation by the stage director or the soloists, providing valuable insight into the work, the artistic choices and preparations involved. This introduction, complemented by an educational booklet provided in advance to teachers, enabled students to undergo the experience with curiosity and understanding.
Building on this enthusiasm and the warm welcome from participating schools, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo will continue this initiative throughout the new season. Different opportunities will be offered to students, allowing them to experience opera from within, in close proximity to the process of creation.
Convinced of the vital role of artistic education, our teams are passionately committed to awakening curiosity, inspiring emotion and perhaps even triggering a new calling.
